RELAY FOR LIFE
DONEGAL

Relay for Life, a 24 hour community celebration,
is back on Saturday May 28th and
Sunday May 29th 2022 to raise money for
the Irish Cancer Society.

Why do we relay non – stop for 24 hours? …
Because Cancer Never Sleeps.

Relay for Life represents the hope that those
who have lost their lives to cancer will never
be forgotten, that those who face cancer
will be supported and that one day we will
live in a cancer free world.

Relay For Life is a community-based initiative in support of the Irish Cancer Society and their work in patient support and research. Relay is a team fundraising event where teams gather to walk for 24 hours to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society.

The event is based around a walking track and at all times during the event, at least one person from each team is walking on the track. Each team has a cancer awareness theme which they promote at their team base. In addition, as part of their fundraising efforts, the teams can also run fundraising events over the 24 hour event if they wish.

Relay For Life is all about:

Celebrate

During our opening Survivor lap, we celebrate cancer survivors from our community and their successes in recovering from or living with cancer, Survivors are a beacon of hope to us all.

REMEMBER

During the Candle Of Hope ceremony at dusk, we remember those from our community  lost to cancer and to inspire those still undergoing treatment.

Fight Back

This is about the community reducing their risk of cancer by promoting healthy eating, active lifestyles, quitting smoking and encouraging their friends and family to seek advice if worried about cancer symptoms.

Thank you to Foy and Company for this initiative and support.Foy and CompanyFoy & Company Letterkenny & Ballybofey launch their Sponsored Walk for Relay for LIfe Donegal as a tribute to their late friend and boss Liam Foy. The Management and Staff at Foy & Company, Letterkenny & Ballybofey will come together on April 23rd for a Sponsored Walk for Relay for life Donegal.April 21st 2023 would have marked the 80th Birthday of the Late Liam Foy and the staff thought that it was fitting that they would remember Liam by doing a walk together at Glenveagh National Park. Liam was a great supporter of Relay for Life Donegal for many years and the last time the staff did a walk was with Liam at Glenveagh National Park. Foy & Company would love all their families, friends and customers to come out and join them on April 23rd. They will gather at Glenveagh National Park Car Park at 10am, walk to the Castle and back. Maybe a wee coffee stop at the Castle and a few photo opportunities. If you would like to support Team Foys you can do so by giving what you can instore at Letterkenny & Ballybofey, Relay for Life Donation buckets are in both stores and they will have donation buckets for Relay for LIfe Donegal with them on the walk! It is with broken hearts that we share with you this evening the sad news of the death of our dear friend and Relayer, John McGlinchey.John was a member of our Relay For Life Donegal Survivors’ Choir, playing a key role in trying to keep us all in tune. John, and the McGlinchey family, have relayed with us from the beginning embracing all elements of Relay - Celebrating, Remembering and Fighting Back together and always with a smile and a sense of fun and devilment. John was not just a survivor or just a choir member, he was an integral part of our Relay family, a dear friend who was loved by us all and will be greatly missed. You fought hard John, but now your suffering is over, may your gentle soul rest in peace in the arms of the angels. Our thoughts and prayers are with John’s lovely wife Monny and family at this very sad time. Suaimhneas síoraí anam álainn.rip.ie/death-notice/john-mcglinchey-raphoe-donegal/529335 ...
